One of the first questions every couple asks — and one that's hard to get a straight answer to online. Here's an honest breakdown of what determines the price, so you know what you're paying for and what to check before you book.
The biggest single factor. A short reception set costs considerably less than full coverage from the ceremony through the dancing. Decide early: do you want live music only at the key moments, or throughout the evening?
Solo violin with professional backing tracks delivers a full sound at the cost of one musician. Adding harp, piano, flute or guitar adds depth and presence — and the cost of another player. This choice depends on the character of the event and the size of the venue more than on budget.
An event nearby and one several hours away are not the same in time or expense. Events abroad involve flights and accommodation and are quoted entirely separately. Always state the exact location when requesting a quote.
Check three things that don't always appear in a quote: sound equipment (does the musician bring it, or must you supply it?), a custom arrangement of your song, and advance coordination with your officiant and DJ. All three are included in every package here — but ask any supplier explicitly.
Don't compare numbers alone. Ask every musician: how much actual playing time? What happens if the event runs long? Is amplification included? Will you attend a rehearsal? Those answers explain price gaps better than any rate card. And finally — ask to hear a live recording, not only an edited video.
